Counter the Effects of Ageing on Your Skin

As we age the elasticity in our skin reduces, bone structure changes and muscles become hyperactive. The combination of these ageing factors results in the formation of lines, wrinkles and sagging.

Wrinkle relaxing injections are used to reduce deep lines and sometimes erase fine lines altogether by interfering with the communication between the nerve impulse and the muscle. Tiny quantities are injected into the muscle directly, therefore making it a very safe and effective treatment.

Wrinkle relaxing injections work perfectly when combined with dermal fillers and cosmeceutical skin care for a full-face approach to anti-ageing.

The wrinkle relaxing injection is a neurotoxin which blocks the release of acetylcholine, and when injected accurately into the muscle, it interferes with the signal, which prevents the muscle from fully contracting.

The most common neurotoxin is Botox. Following a Botox treatment, muscles start to relax after 3-5 days but take up to 3 weeks to reach its optimum result.

The average time a Botox treatment lasts is 3-4 months. Some patients may experience results which last longer, and some may be shorter.

First time Botox patients will be asked to return 2-3 weeks later for a follow up appointment to ensure the treatment is optimum.

Jane is a qualified nurse prescriber and recognises that a full assessment of a patient’s maturing process and history-taking is paramount. They believe that Botox Injections are one of the most effective non-surgical anti-ageing treatments available. Botox Injections work best when combined with dermal filler and advanced skin care. The skin care will improve texture, tone and hydration, and dermal fillers help to lift and volumise, reducing sagging and heaviness.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Botox is a drug made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum toxin. It is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by temporarily preventing the contraction of a muscle.

There are different types of botulinum toxin commercially available in the United Kingdom: Type A toxin: Botox (Vistabel), Dysport (Azzalure) and Xeomin (Bocouture).

You will be booked in for your treatment for a 30-minute slot. During this time, Jane or Susan will take a full history and discuss treatment areas and work out dosages to achieve a great result.

The treatment involves a series of tiny injections in to the areas which you wish to be treated. The procedure is relatively pain free. Botox comes in a form of a vial in powder form. It is then diluted by adding a saline solution. The nurse then decides on dosages suitable.

Botox can be used to treat migraines, this works by blocking the release of the neurotransmitters, which are responsible for causing pain. Botox can also be effective for excessive sweating in the under-arm region. It does this by blocking the signal that the body sends to stimulate sweat glands.
